Belem Capital State of Pará
Located in the northern part of Brazil, Belem is the capital city of the state of Pará. It is in fact the largest metropolitan city in the state with a population of about 2.09 million. Belem is the entry point for Brazilian Amazon region and is thus holds an important position in the history of the country.
With almost four centuries of existence, Belem is the city that more grew in the region being considered the regional metropolis of the North and city most populous of the Amazonian Region.
Of fact, Belem is today an important commercial city and a great center of businesses of the Amazonian Region. The majority of the people works in commercial companies and services companies.
The State Of Pará
Pará is the second largest state of Brazil in area, second only to Amazonas. (It was the third until Mato Grosso do Sul broke away from Mato Grosso in 1977.) In the northern region, it has the largest population, more than 6 million. Its most famous icons are the Amazon River and the Amazon rain forest. Well known Amazonian products include: firstly, rubber extracted from the natural rubber tree groves, tropical hardwoods such as mahogany, and most recently minerals such as iron ore and bauxite.
According to the website for the state’s investment promotion agency; Invest Pará, the state of Pará is expecting US $50 billion in public and private investments into the local economy from 2010-2014. With agribusiness, cosmetics, mining, and tourism as the sectors with highest investment potential as they receive special benefits from the state government.
